Jeffrey Moth was awarded the degree of B.Sc.Agr. in 1968 and the degree of Ph.D.
in 1975 - both from the University of Sydney. Dr. Moth specialised firstly in
agricultural genetics and later in population genetics.
Dr. Moth commenced work as a geneticist in the Australian poultry
industry in 1976 and during his career has been employed by most of the major
Australian poultry
breeding companies, including Rochedale Hatchery (Senior Geneticist and Sales
Manager), Hy-Line Chicks (General Manager), Table Talk
Poultry Farms (Senior Geneticist and Manager - Breeding Division), Australian Poultry/Steggles
(Technical Director) and Hy-Line Australia (Managing Director).
Dr. Moth developed the highly successful Siro-CT and Siro-CB layers in
association with CSIRO and later developed the Hy-Line Gold layer. Dr. Moth also
had involvement in the ongoing development of the Rochedale 440, Hy-Line Tint,
and Hy-Line Brown layers.
In meat chickens, Dr. Moth developed the Hywate broiler and was involved in
the ongoing development of the Hy-Line and Steggles broilers. Dr. Moth has also
served as a committee member of the Australian Chicken Meat Research Committee.
Dr. Moth has developed the Nulkaba Brown Egg layer specifically for the barn and free range production environments and is
responsible for its ongoing genetic improvement. Dr. Moth is now concentrating
on the development of quail, ducks and game birds (guinea fowl and pheasants) for meat
production in the barn and free range environments.
